the zumiak  (Zoom-ee ak)

Designed by Corey Freedman, the Zumiak is a cross between a soft and a rigid inflatable. Due to the flexible design of the skin-on-frame hull, the Zumiak has all the shock absorbing qualities of a soft boat while retaining the energy efficiency of a rigid hull.

Merging ancient and modern techniques is the secret to this remarkable hybrid. The unique design and the use of the finest materials enables this 20' craft to weigh less than 200 lbs. This micro-light design allows for a drastic reduction in the required power: in the case of the pictured boat, a 30 hp motor is being used, and the boat has a top cruising speed of 35 knots. The fuel economy of this design is unmatched.  The Zumiak would be the perfect candidate for electric powered boat.
